This privacy policy applies to the app “LaTeX Formula Editor” for iPhone and iPad (the “App”). Your privacy matters: the App doesn't need an account, and the content of your documents is never sent to me or to anyone else.

Your documents are stored only on your device, in the “On My iPhone/iPad › LaTeX Editor” folder of the Files app. With LaTeX Editor Pro you can also sync them with iCloud Drive; Apple then stores them in your own iCloud account. I have no access to them. Apple's privacy policy applies: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Formulas are typeset right on your device: the KaTeX library used for this and its fonts are built into the App. The preview, exporting as PDF or image and copying as an image therefore work offline, and nothing is loaded from or sent to the internet in the process. Links in your documents only open in Safari when you tap them. The App only uses the clipboard when you explicitly choose “Copy LaTeX Code” or “Copy as Image”.
The version history, the private folder and your settings are also stored only on your device. Some settings (such as pinned iCloud documents and folder colors) are synced between your devices through your iCloud account. Widgets receive a list of your recent documents (name and beginning of the text), which also stays on your device; while the app lock is on, no content is shared with widgets.
Face ID / Touch ID: The app lock and the private folder use iOS device authentication. The App only learns whether authentication succeeded – never any biometric data.
Without a subscription, the App is funded by ads, using the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. In particular, the following data may be processed: IP address, device and system information (such as device model, iOS version, language), approximate location (derived from the IP address), interactions with ads and – only with your permission – your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). The content of your documents is never transmitted.
Consent: Users in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google's User Messaging Platform before personalized ads are shown (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Without consent, only non-personalized ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in the App under Settings › Privacy Choices.
App Tracking Transparency: The advertising identifier (IDFA) is only used if you allow it in Apple's prompt. You can withdraw this permission at any time in the iOS Settings under Privacy & Security › Tracking.
Data may be transferred to countries outside the EU, in particular the United States. Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. More information: policies.google.com/privacy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
With a LaTeX Editor Pro subscription, no ads are shown and the advertising SDK isn't started.
Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple's App Store. I don't receive payment details or any information that identifies you personally – the App only learns whether a subscription is active.
The App doesn't use any analytics or tracking services of its own, doesn't create user accounts and doesn't send any data to me. Uninstalling the App deletes all data stored on the device; documents in iCloud Drive remain in your iCloud account.
Under the GDPR, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. As I don't store any personal data myself, please also contact Google or Apple directly about data they process.
The App is not directed at children under 13.
I update this privacy policy when the App or the law changes. The version published here applies.
